ESG Catalysts investigates the gap between what companies claim about sustainability and what the record actually shows. No press releases rewritten as news. No ratings we can't explain. Just reporting, checked before it runs.
Sustainability reporting has become a genre of marketing. Companies publish glossy reports, ratings agencies disagree with each other by wide margins, and very few outlets check any of it against a primary source before publishing.
That gap is where greenwashing lives, not usually in outright lies, but in the space between what's implied and what's actually documented.
We treat corporate sustainability claims the way any investigative beat treats a claim: verify it against filings, court records, and on-record sources before it runs. If a source won't go on record, the claim doesn't run either.
We also publish our own methodology in full, including for the Catalyst Index, our sector-by-sector disclosure-quality ranking, because a rating you can't audit isn't worth much more than the claims it's supposed to check.
Filings and records, not press releases rewritten as fact.
If someone won't go on record, the claim doesn't run.
No story runs on one person's read of the evidence.
The Catalyst Index is published in full, not paywalled.
The newsroom reads everything that comes in.
